Over the past few years, Jakarta has transformed into one of the must-go destination in Asia for global foodies. Along with the mushroom of trendy new restaurants, specialty restaurants such as this one is starting to emerge. Pipiltin Cocoa falls under this category; a new concept restaurant – pioneer in offering an in-house chocolate bean to bar processing to bring you a unique chocolate experience. The spacious restaurant is located in the up-and-coming hustle and bustle area of South Jakarta, Kebayoran Baru.
Located on the first floor is an eye-catching open kitchen where they process their chocolate into unique molecular creations on a plate. The selections of desserts at Pipiltin Cocoa are countless, an exaggeration, though they actually do offer extensive dessert choices relative to your typical dessert places. From its signature plated desserts, cakes, pralines, cookies down to their unique chocolate coated macarons; “chocoron”. This aside, they also serve hot savory food such as pastas, pizzas and steak.

On my first visit to Pipiltin Cocoa, I was utterly disappointed as they ran out of their famous Liquid Tiramisu. Pipiltin Cocoa do run out of stock from time to time, so come early! I ended up ordering a few of its other selections; the Egg No, which I have to say is one of the most appealing plated dessert that are available in the menu. The dessert resembles a poached egg, oozing with pineapple juice. Inside it is a Panna Cotta paired with mango cream, which in combination makes it not too sweet for my taste. To top that off is a huge piece of cotton candy with mint flavoring which makes this dessert all the more special.
The second plated dessert that I ordered was Motion. This dessert is made up of bitter chocolate mousse with a raspberry foam that is sprinkled with pineapple and pink peppercorn. What more can I say? The plating is easy on the eyes and the taste is beyond delicious. A dessert that is again not overpowering in both its sweetness and richness level.
Pipiltin Cocoa offers a wide range of macaron flavors. During this visit, I managed to only have enough stomach space for its Green Tea and the Pistachio macarons. I would definitely recommend the latter as it is not too sweet. As a huge fan of macarons, I would say that these macarons are one of the best I have tried in Jakarta so far.

An evidence of the power of word-of-mouth and social media in Jakarta, this new concept food joint did not have difficulty with publicity. This visit was made on a Saturday night and the place was already filled with young patrons winding down over the weekend up to its last table when I arrived. I would definitely go back to this place again the next time I crave for chocolate. Very highly recommended to all the foodies out there that are starting to get bored of typical restaurants. A final tip: you better come early to get a seat, since they do not take reservations.
