The Immigrant Dining Room
The re-vitalization of the restaurant/lounge Immigrant has created a hype in the Jakarta food scene.
The Fat Corner was lucky enough to be invited for their new menu tasting, post the grand opening event (read our review here). As I have mentioned previously, I was quite awed by their new classic layout which brought me back to the 1920s.

We kicked off the meal with the Smoked Tomato Soup. The soup tasted fresh and makes a great starter for the lunch.
The chef managed to successfully remake the traditional tomato soup by smoking it, turning it into something unique. The toasted garlic bread on the side completes the dish.

For the second course, we had the Gnocchi Con Piccione – potato gnocchi with Italian corn-fed pigeon stewed with black truffle and parmesan shavings.
Honestly speaking, I did not taste any pigeon. The gnocchi itself, however, has an excellent texture and flavor.
The pasta sauce has a nice thickness and flavor to it. This is definitely the highlight of the meal.

Pairing these dishes were 2 great cocktails; the Whiskey Sour and the Burn & Breakfast. The Whiskey Sour, like its name, is a very macho drink with a strong whiskey taste. Although I am not a big fan of whiskeys, I actually found this drink very refreshing.

The Burn & Breakfast, on the other hand, would probably appeal more to the ladies thanks to its feminine color, sweet taste and the fact that it’s served in a martini glass.

Then came the two main courses:
Wagyu Beef Burger – grilled patty of Australian wagyu beef, tomato chutney, jalapenos, cornichon, and mozzarella gratin served with leaf salad and chunky potato fries.
My first thought when the it came was whether I could fit such a huge burger into my mouth.
I wouldn’t say that this burger is the best in Jakarta, probably because it isn’t as juicy as it looks. I wish they had cooked the patty medium-rare instead of medium-well to well done and splashed more sauce to tie the ingredients together.

The second main course is the Iga Bakar Bumbu Kecap Pedas (Barbecued Spicy Soy Ribs). This is another of my favorite dish of the meal as I am a sucker for Indonesian food.
The sauce is authentic, though I would suggest to cook the ribs a little longer to make it more tender.

Finally, with a full stomach, we arrived at the final dessert course which we could not resist.
We had the Trio Fondant – XO fondant, coffee and orange fondant, hazelnut and amaretto fondant with coffee liquor ice cream and cognac ice cream.
The hazelnut and amaretto fondant was the star. The hazelnut taste was delightful and the fondant was not too sweet.

The new Immigrant new food menu has gained a new fan.
I will definitely come back to the Immigrant dining room for their meals and their extensive cocktail choices.
A great place to mingle with a strategic location in Plaza Indonesia.
